Mining

The hard rock mineral, coal and industrial mineral assets of the trust are managed by the Mining Group. Revenue is generated primarily through rents and production royalties. The Trust Lands Administration has a wide variety of mineral resources, from coal in Central Utah, to uranium and potash in Southern Utah to crushed stone aggregate in Northern Utah.  Among the other resources managed by the Mining Group are: oil shale and tar sands, gold and other metals, gemstones and fossils as well as sand and gravel. These resources have significant leasing potential and return to the beneficiaries.
