The Utah Division of Water Resources is one of 12 beneficiaries of Utah’s trust lands. Trust Lands generates revenue from the 342,382 acres of land held in trust for Utah’s reservoirs and deposits the revenue into a Permanent Fund. Interest and dividends from this permanent trust, along with all non-land sale revenues, are distributed to the Division of Water Resources annually.
The Division of Water Resources uses these funds to assist it in its mission of providing technical and financial assistance to encourage the highest beneficial uses of water consistent with economic, social, and environmental considerations. The Division also identifies future water needs and implements water management, conservation and development strategies, and defends and protects Utah’s rights to develop and use its entitlement to interstate streams.
