SITLA is currently streamlining its wildland seed harvesting sales process to more quickly authorize permits of less than $5,000. When approved, this new rule allows harvesters to apply for permits over the counter and without competitive bidding, as required previously.
The new process includes electronic notification of the sale to an agency-maintained email list of interested parties. Bids are accepted up to an established due date and the sale awarded to the highest bidder.
Wildland seed is a unique product with a very narrow harvesting timeline. SITLA believes the new process will allow harvesters to take advantage of gathering opportunities on trust lands and generate additional revenue for trust beneficiaries.
All wildland seed harvest permits over $5000 must go through a full competitive process, which includes advertising and sealed bidding.
