Auction Earns $1 Million for Public Schools

On behalf of Utah’s public schools, the School and Institutional Trust Lands Administration (SITLA) sold 1,429 school trust land acres at public auction today, generating $1,042,000 for the Permanent School Fund. The 630-acre Modena parcel in Iron County sold for $279,000. The Horse Creek-Indian Head and Kyune Creek parcels in Utah County sold for $50,000 and $500,000, respectively. The Enoch Donation parcels in Iron County sold for $213,000. A 120-acre Teasdale Bench parcel received no bids and was not sold at today’s auction. Since its creation in 1994, SITLA has auctioned an estimated 60,000 acres from the 3.4 million acre trust lands portfolio, while helping to place more than 560,000 acres into conservation. Since 1994, SITLA has contributed more than $1.9 billion to the permanent funds for public schools, state hospitals, colleges, and universities, which total $2.37 billion. The Permanent School Fund has provided more than $436 million to Utah K-12 schools since 2005.
