SITLA has established a regional office in Vernal to better collaborate with the Ute Tribe, private business, government agencies, and the community on energy development and other SITLA projects in the Uinta Basin. SITLA Oil and Gas Resource Specialist Tyson Todd, who is originally from Roosevelt, will lead the office located in the Uintah County Office Building at 152 East 100 North in Vernal. “The Uintah Basin is my home, and my family and I are excited to return to this great community,” stated Todd. “I look forward to renewing relationships with friends and colleagues, and building on SITLA’s already solid reputation.” Of the $81 million SITLA generated from trust lands last year, $35 million came from oil and gas development, largely from the Uintah Basin. SITLA also has oil shale, oil sands, and rights of way leases for transmission lines, pipelines, and other energy infrastructure. In addition to energy development, SITLA collaborates on stewardship and recreation projects including the popular McCoy Flats Trail System. SITLA manages trust lands on behalf of public schools, state hospitals, colleges, and universities. Revenue generated from trust lands is deposited into permanent endowments, from which beneficiaries receive annual interest income. Utah’s public schools will receive $74 million from the $2.5 billion Permanent School Fund this school year. Last year, Duchesne and Uintah county school districts received $588,703 and $770,380, respectively.
