May 24 Auction to Benefit Public Schools, State Reservoirs

SITLA will sell four trust land parcels, totaling 1,160 acres at its biannual public auction 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 24 at SITLA Offices located at 675 East 500 South in Salt Lake City. Proceeds from the sale of the Needles Outpost, Cedar City, and Rip Gut Creek properties will be deposited into the $2.2 billion Permanent School Fund, which provides more than $50 million annually to Utah’s K-12 public schools. Sale of the Green River East parcel will benefit the state reservoir beneficiary, which is administered by the Utah Division of Water Resources. The scenic 640-acre Needles Outpost property is located near the entrance of the Needles District of Canyonlands National Park. The property includes a convenience store, gas station, campground with amenities, unimproved runway, and developed trails. The Outpost is located on school trust lands. It was leased to private owners from the 1960s until the lease terminated July 2015. It is currently managed under a temporary permit by a different private party. SITLA reviewed management strategies and has opted to sell the school trust lands, buildings, and other amenities. The half-acre Cedar City parcel is two adjoining residential lots, each with an older home. This parcel was donated to SITLA last year with the request that proceeds benefit the Permanent School Fund. The 480-acre Rip Gut Creek parcel is located in Hamblin Valley near the Nevada border in Beaver County. This remote parcel is suited for recreation and includes two water rights. The Green River East 40-acre parcel is located within the town of Green River in Emery County and is best suited for industrial use. Also at auction, Utah State University offers a 271.86-acre Indian Canyon parcel located near Price on Highway 191 in Carbon County. This property includes buildings used formerly for education and manufacturing. For more information visit the SITLA land sale auction webpage or call 801-538-5163 and toll-free at 877-526-3725.
