SITLA Land Sale Auction Earns More Than $650,000 for Permanent School Fund

The School and Institutional Trust Lands Administration (SITLA) sold two parcels of school trust land at its biannual public auction held on June 25, 2014, earning $656,000 for Utah’s public schools. The 34.91-acre Buffalo Hollow parcel in Emery County sold for $46,000 and the 364-acre Sweetwater parcel in Sevier County sold for $610,000. All proceeds from the sales of school trust land are deposited into the Permanent School Fund. Interest and dividends from the $1.87 billion trust fund are distributed annually to Utah’s public schools. Last year, K-12 schools received $37.4 million. SITLA is entirely self-funded. SITLA also assisted Utah State University with the sale of an 896-acre parcel in Carbon and Emery counties. The agency holds its next land sale auction Thursday, October 30, 2014.
